Argyrakis Winery: Wines from Imathia that tell stories

Argyrakis
With the flagship "Ati" series and origins from Smyrna, the Argyrakis family has developed an entire philosophy around wine production.
They want their wines to tell stories. After all, wine at their family table has always been the best occasion for memories from the past to surface. Brothers Konstantinos and Spyros Argyrakis, together with their father George, have developed an entire philosophy around the production of the Argyrakis winery located in Tripotamos, Imathia, as they believe that wine is much more than a taste. After all, they are inspired by stories and try to put them in their own bottles. With a wine tradition that begins in Izmir and an uninterrupted love for good wine over the years, the Argyrakis family's only plan for the future is to continue having fun with what they do, providing "entertainment", in the literal sense of the word, to those who taste their wines.
The horse trader from Smyrna and the following generations
The beginning of the family's wine history is placed at the beginning
of the 20th century, in Koukloutzas, an area near Smyrna. There George Argyrakis, the great-grandfather of the family, a horse trader
, cultivated
his own vines, specifically the batiki and fileri varieties, and
made his own wine. With the destruction of Smyrna in 1922, his
family left for Thessaloniki and settled in the
area of Evosmos (Koukloutzas).
But the uprooting did not eradicate his love for wine, which
he continued to make in small quantities. The presence of wine at the
family table influenced his grandson, George Argyrakis, who
grew up studying chemistry and oenology. In fact,
for 14 years, from 1983 to 1997, he was the oenologist of
Boutaris Oenopetiki. When he retired, he started working as a
chemist at the State Chemistry Department, but his involvement with wine
did not stop, as he continued to produce it on his own, having
bought a vineyard in Trilofos, Imathia.
This unquenchable wine flame was fanned when his two sons,
Konstantinos and Spyros, came to the fore. Raised on the
stories of their father, they were oriented from the first moment
to wine. Konstantinos studied oenology and Spyros studied
civil engineering, which he complemented with a
master's degree in bioclimatic wineries.
“Our father's phrase that still echoes in my ears is ‘do you want to try ?’” says Konstantinos Argyrakis to Voria.gr. In fact, the two brothers were involved in the production process from childhood. Among other things, they remember tying a tag with the details of the wine on thousands of bottles, since their father wanted to teach them respect for the product, down to the last detail. Thus, in 2016, with the support of their father, they created from the beginning the winery in Tripotamos and even with bioclimatic standards, expanded the vineyards in Trilofos, which today reaches 25 acres and continued more systematically the wine activity of the family.
